| Heating oil is dependable, abundant, and is economically beneficial. Oilheat, therefore, remains an affordable and value-packed choice.
Oil delivers more heat per BTU than most other heating fuels. This is because oil burns at a much higher temperature. The value of oil has increased even more due to major advancements made in Oilheat burner technology. Some high-efficient Oilheat systems now attain 85%+ efficiency ratings. As a result, modern Oilheat equipment actually burns less fuel.
On August 8, 2005 President Bush signed the Energy Policy Act of 2005, which offers tax credits for energy efficiency improvements made by homeowners on their existing principal residence.
The tax credit has two components:
- A credit for qualified energy-efficient heating equipment
- A 10% credit for energy efficiency improvements to the building envelope (windows, exterior doors, insulation)
Consumers can receive these tax credits on various energy efficiency and conservation measures in the home, such as:
- Up to $500 in credits on the amount spent to upgrade thermostats, caulk leaks or stop energy waste
- Up to $300 credits for purchase of a highly efficient oil-fired water heater
- Up to $150 for installation of a high-efficiency furnace
When it comes to your home and your family, you want your heating system to be safe.
There are visible warnings if there is a malfunction. With home heating oil systems, carbon monoxide leaks rarely happen without warning. If an Oilheat system should malfunction, it will release smoke or soot as a visible warning; these serve as early indicators that something is wrong, long before dangerous carbon monoxide can be released into the air.
It will not burn in a liquid state. In order to light heating oil on fire, you must heat it above 140 degrees, the temperature at which it begins to vaporize. Heating oil is non-explosive.
